Two Heels

I was never fond of shoes. Usually, I wear slippers or plain sandals when going to college. For 4 years, wearing high-heeled shoes would be like fruits in season, rarely can you find them.

That’s me. Plain t-shirt, jeans, and a pair of slippers would be enough to get me to school. But then, college life has to end somehow. And I need to enter the corporate world. Though wearing high-heeled shoes is not new to me, still wearing high-heeled shoes everyday is like a culture shock.

For the first few days, my feet sore trying to walk with feet elevated 2 to 3 inches. But I did manage until I had not one, but two incident on how I broke the heels of my shoes on duty.

I was very busy that day. I had a lot of works pending, not to mention the deadline and the pressure from the bosses. I was trying to finish one task by having two officers sign the documents. One officer is getting ready to go home and had signed the documents but had skipped one. When I try to review what I had done, I saw the missing signature. Unfortunately, my boss was on her car ready to drive home. So, I tried to run after her for her signature. When I was already out of the office, running on my high-heeled shoes, oops, I slipped in one corner of the road, flat on my butt. There I was red in the face, trying to gain back my poise and looking down, I broke the heels of my shoes. To add to my embarrassment, I did slip in front of a very busy road with lots of public and private cars passing by and it was also the time when most people are traveling home and lots of people witnessed my stunt.

Well, it’s a first, I say. But that didn’t stop there. It was another regular day at the office. We had few clients, few transactions and we had the time to roam around. Just when I was standing up and walking back to my station, I slipped again. That’s a bit unlucky. So, I rushed to the pantry with one foot high and the other, well, sticking to the ground. Everyone at the office is laughing, trying to tease me two times in a row. At least now, only they can see the second round.
