What Working Moms Should Not Miss

As working moms, we have a lot of priorities aside from the usual “taking care of the kids.” We have to juggle out time between work, family, personal necessities and for some, social life. We need to step out of the “mother” platform and in to another dais.

Yet, as working moms, it is never an excuse to miss out on important things in our children’s lives. Although some of these remarkable events happen during the first stages of our kid’s lives, still, these are memories worth cherishing and an addition to the a motherly experience.

So, I list down some of the things I personally find vital not to miss in our life as a mother. I also included some personal experiences with my daughter, Nise.

• Breastfeeding – As they say, breastfeeding is best for babies. I remember a friend in college told me that when I become a mother, I must breastfeed my baby as it builds a better and more intimate connection between the mother and the baby. Also, milk out of breastfeed is more nutritious than formula feeding.

• Putting the child to sleep – It is a wonderful experience to see your baby gradually going to sleep while you wrap your arms to support him or her. While they are growing up, your kids also want you to be there by their side before the shut-eye.

Whenever Nise is sleeping in our room, I see to it that I personally put her to sleep. Before she sleeps, she would request a story time from me. If I give in, she would feel very excited and happy to also share in during the story time. Most of the time, she would want me to tap her butt softly and slowly to help her doze off. There are also times when she would hug me tight because she is afraid. These moments are irreplaceable and even though my work is pending, a few minutes won’t mean a huge sacrifice.

• Feeding your child – feeding your children will make them feel cared for. Although they would actually not realize it, but they appreciate it if their mom or dad would feed them. (Well, these are often applicable to children who are still young enough for independent eating.) Besides, wouldn’t it feel great if you yourself feed the very essential need of your kid?

• Disciplining your child – who better to discipline them in the right way without implementing much harshness to it than you? More to the point, your children would appreciate it someday that you are doing a hands-on job in something that concerns in making them better people.

Children as they are, Nise usually have tantrums and behaviors that Eddie and I would not permit. To make her understand, we would give a minute off our works and teach her what she needs to do.

• Helping out in their studies – Kids love to learn something new. It does not actually mean that when studying is done inside the school and is the job of teachers, you skip teaching your kids. Whenever your little one wants to confirm or learn something or maybe eager to study the colors or the alphabet, show him or her support. You can both sing the alphabet song or some nursery rhymes. You can buy her coloring books, teach her what colors match the different things and let her color. Little as it may be, these will create a huge impact.

For working dads or dads at home, some of these points work for you too. A little time off wouldn’t jeopardize your work or career. In fact, it will do great for all. Just think, you will have a rest time from work and enjoy a quality time with your kid. Your kid will love spending time with you and helping them out in their growing years. Your work will appreciate a more inspired and rejuvenated you.
